Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Areas Grey FAQ page. If you’re curious about what we do, how we do it, or how you can get involved, this is the place. Below you'll find answers to the most commonly asked questions about our work, our expeditions, and our mission.

🧭 What is Areas Grey?

Areas Grey is a private exploration initiative dedicated to investigating real-world mysteries involving lost treasure, lost cities, lost artefacts, lost tombs, shipwrecks, mythical places, and mythical objects. Our work blends historical research, field exploration, and modern investigative tools to track down what others have long considered lost or impossible to find.

🕵️‍♂️ Are your investigations real?

Yes. Every lead we follow is based on real-world clues, historical accounts, and research. We do not pursue fully excavated or verified sites already found. Our team only investigates targets that are still physically missing or undiscovered.

📍 What kind of locations do you explore?

Our expeditions range from ancient ruins in remote jungles to potential shipwreck sites, lost tombs hidden in deserts, mountain caves, medieval relic trails, and even folklore-inspired quests. Past locations have included the UK, Germany, Italy, Morocco, the Caribbean, and Central America.

💼 Who runs Areas Grey?

Areas Grey was founded by Grey, a modern-day explorer, researcher, and field strategist. He works closely with Rob and a growing network of trusted collaborators including historians, local guides, artifact specialists, and logistics experts.

🔍 What makes you different from other exploration groups?

  1. We focus strictly on undiscovered targets—no clickbait ruins or staged content.

  2. Our work blends professional field ops with cinematic storytelling and historical integrity.

  3. We operate fast and lean, sometimes with minimal teams in high-risk areas.

  4. We value discretion, respect for cultural heritage, and transparent reporting.

⚠️ Do you work with landowners or authorities?

Yes. We only operate with legal permission and in full compliance with local heritage laws. We often work in partnership with private landowners, local researchers, and institutions.

🧨 Are you treasure hunters or archaeologists?

We’re a hybrid of both. We follow professional research and field methodologies, but we pursue leads that most archaeologists overlook—often due to risk, uncertainty, or lack of funding. Our focus is on uncovering the physically missing, whether for preservation, study, or return to rightful owners.

🔐 What is the Rapid Heritage Intervention Unit?

This is our specialist team for high-risk or time-sensitive recoveries. They use rapid, discreet scanning and recovery methods to investigate suspected looting sites or high-value leads before damage or theft occurs. We then publish reports to deter illegal hunting and inform stakeholders.

💬 Can I follow your expeditions?

Yes! While we maintain operational secrecy during missions, we publish expedition logs, photos, and updates via our Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Expedition Blog Posts after the fact. You can also subscribe to our email updates or follow us via our official channels.

🧭 Can I join your team?

We occasionally recruit for specific roles such as drone operators, translators, local guides, divers, or heritage researchers. If you think you have something valuable to offer, get in touch via our Contact Page or subscribe to our mailing list for future opportunities.

📦 Do you sell anything?

We offer a selection of exclusive mystery hunts, illustrated prints, and field-inspired merchandise through the Areas Grey Store. All purchases help fund future expeditions and support independent exploration.

❓ I have a lead. Will you investigate it?

We’re always interested in credible leads that match our scope. If you have a tip about a lost artefact, site, or treasure, feel free to reach out. Note: We do not investigate hoaxes, conspiracy theories, or already-solved cases.

🔍 What kinds of mysteries do you not investigate?

We exclude:

  • Fully excavated or tourist-accessible sites

  • Items already located in museums or collections

  • General folklore without a tangible object/site to track

  • Hoaxes, staged legends, or anything already widely debunked

📧 How can I contact Areas Grey?
